1/ The Lounge/Dining Room:
The challenge with this makeover
was the size of the space: we had a lot to do for only $AU1200.
The
brief was simple - they wanted to try some bold colours, but not necessarily
on the walls. It was their entertaining area so it should look elegant
and inviting. I couldn't touch the dining table or entertainment unit,
but the rest was open slather!
I began with covering all the
walls with a ragged paint effect using Dulux "Ivory Sampler"
- over the existing white this gave a soft yet rich effect.
The couch cushions were recovered
and loose chair covers made from the same "Metro" chenille fabric.
Three
panels of Wayang Ply were mounted on the dining Room wall and a cheap
cabled light fitting was set in the centre of each. The power cords ran
to an existing point at the base of the wall.
Two
columns made from MDF were fitted beneath the bulkhead between the two
rooms and the whole thing painted with a sandstone effect: a combination
of natural stone colours with actual sand mixed in the paint to give texture.
Add a new coffee table and
a bit of artwork and the lounge / dining room is ready for it's first
guests!
